Ted
A moment when I was filled with awe and wonder was sailing across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin, in the middle of the night. The stars were shining bright from horizon to horizon. This was for me, unquestionably, a snapshot that caused me to cry out, “My God, my God, how great thou art!”
SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”
I’ve always felt energized with purpose and meaning as I worked in my business to support my family. However, it was my 10-year journey in the country of Haiti that took my sense of calling and purpose to a whole new level. God was using us to fulfill real needs – like drilling a very deep well that provided an almost unlimited amount of fresh water for crops and drinking water for perhaps thousands of people in the neighborhood.
SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”
There was a time, in my early teens, when my parents could no longer afford to send their 6 children to a Christian school. My first year of high school was in a wonderful public school, but I missed my friends from Christian grade school. That summer I prayed we could go back. Miraculously, the day before school restarted, our pastor showed up at the farm. After a long talk with my dad, he told us we were all going back to Christian school—thanks to an anonymous donor. I’ve never forgotten that and I’m still grateful.
SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”
I have seen and experienced blatant evil and brokenness. I was very impacted in particular by the conditions in Haiti that caused little girls to be dressed in rags and living in hovels. I learned there are spiritual and practical roots of poverty. And I believe the Bible and a faith-based approach offers hope for people to break free. Poverty is not just a material condition—it’s a mindset and spiritual stronghold that can be overcome through truth, transformation, and the power of God.
SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
