In college, I needed $5,000 to join a global youth ministry’s staff. I sent letters, waited by the mailbox, and after two weeks, only $100 came in. I thought, “I’m not cut out for this.” Then, I learned to engage relationally. Within weeks, I had all the funds I needed. But the real gift was seeing God’s faithfulness through people. That shift—from transaction to relationship—filled me with awe. I knew then that God works through community, and that changed everything.
SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”
Coaching a 14-year-old named Josh was a moment I knew I was living my purpose. Josh set out to raise $100,000—one penny at a time—for a global housing organization but hit a wall. He reached out to me and I agreed to mentor him. With confidence, he raised the remaining $78,000. Seeing his joy and transformation reminded me:fundraising isn’t about money—it’s about inviting people into something bigger than themselves. Helping others step into their calling fills me with energy. This is the work I was made to do.
SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”
Leading a small nonprofit, I opened our post office box to find an unexpected $1,000 check. I called the donor and that single gift led to years of friendship—over bowls of clam chowder—where his giving grew to over $50,000 annually. I thought I needed money, but what I truly needed was a partner. God’s provision wasn’t just financial; it was relational. He showed me that fundraising, like faith, is about trusting Him to provide through people. That check wasn’t just money—it was a reminder that God always makes a way.
SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”
I once met a donor who decided he had enough for himself and his kids—so he committed to giving everything else away. But the more he gave, the more God blessed him. His wealth tripled. He told me, “I tried to give it all away, and God just kept providing.” The world teaches us to hold tight, but Jesus calls us to live open-handed. This man’s generosity showed me that true peace comes from trusting God, not hoarding resources. Giving freely isn’t losing—it’s gaining a deeper faith in God’s abundance.
