Noel
On many occasions in the summer in my front yard, I have been filled with awe and wonder. It is a quiet and relaxed day. The sun is shining. There is warmth all around me. A soft breeze is blowing. And my daughter is sitting in the tree swing in the shade reading a book. And here I am - mesmerized by fifteen honey bees flying around the deep purple of the newly bloomed lavender. I count the bees and watch their elegant floating movements.
SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”
I feel alive with God’s purpose for me when I’m in front of a classroom. When my lesson is flowing and the students are engaged. When people are noticing things and asking deep questions. When my students leave the classroom with knowledge - but also more wonder and curiosity. When a bond develops between student and teacher. It’s in those moments that I feel most alive and energized with purpose and meaning!
SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”
I was going through a difficult time — filled with pain, confusion, and self-doubt. God sent friends and mentors to help me listen for His voice. I began to experience Jesus’ love in a new way. I found footing — not by escaping pain but by walking in gospel hope amid struggle. I saw how much anxiety I’d carried and realized the Lord had delivered me. The situation isn’t fully resolved, but I’ve heard God say to trust that my healing is secure. My life and my relationships are such gifts from God.
SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”
I’ve worked for years in a Christian educational program in a state prison. The men I work with have seen and done horrible things. They feel deep remorse—and feel thrown away by society. But many have made radical, unexpected life changes. Clenched jaws softened into smiles. Despair turned to hope. Grateful for the time, teaching, and mentoring, many are inspired to pass it on. Disciplinary incidents dropped, and the prison has more peace. The changes in lives and prison culture are symbolized by a beautiful—and well-tended—flower garden planted in the prison yard.
”SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
