The Pontiac Silver Dome was packed with 75,000 men - including a bus load from our church. We were excited to hear the speakers and experience the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit at this Promise Keepers event. I will never forget the rising crescendo of 75,000 men singing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty! All Thy works will praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea!” Whenever I hear or sing this hymn, that memory comes flooding back and is a reminder of the promises I made that day to God and my family.
SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”
I was in my senior year in Bible college, looking forward to graduation, finding meaningful work, and getting “established” in life. My wife and I were also expecting our first child. And then that wonderful miracle of birth happened on a warm February day at 9:03 a.m. We were parents now! The cares about vocation, classroom assignments, making ends meet, and a dozen other concerns fell away! Our purpose and calling as parents and in our work is a gift from God. God is good!
SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”
Our family was deeply in debt. I sought advice from trusted individuals. We prayed to God for a way to clear the debt and put ourselves on solid footing once again. We began a plan to pay back all that we owed. It took five years of discipline, hard work, and trusting God to supply ALL our needs. With His help we succeeded! We experienced many blessings along the way - including a part-time job that fit with my full-time work schedule. God brought us through this trying time, and we look back with gratitude!
SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”
A young man I know was ensnared in a legal situation which resulted in a six-month sentence at a county jail. Moving from freedom to incarceration was a huge hurdle. His daily routine changed dramatically. Choices were made for him, including an early morning kitchen assignment six days a week. He read his Bible as never before and, though raised in a Christian home, began to truly understand God’s grace and forgiveness. Released a month early for good behavior, he now focuses on his relationship with Christ, serves on a worship team, and knows Christ’s forgiveness in a deep personal way.
”SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
