Eric

A new mother’s voice singing over her son. Soft and haunting yet perfectly in time and on pitch. It filled our room like it was an old cathedral. I stopped and listened to my wife sing over our new baby: “Goodnight my Father, put thoughts of Jesus in his head, Holy Spirit, comfort him, put angels all around his bed…” I’ve sung those words over all my children to bring them peace. And I’m always in awe and wonder of God and how He’s used that song as a beacon of peace in our home.

SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”

God let my wife Erica and I go back and be youth pastors again. We saw students coming to Christ. We saw them evangelize on the streets of London. We saw them serve in tiny villages around England watching the center tighten on our vision for youth. We also got to step back and let the leaders lead. Obedience was costly. From raising the funds to executing the vision God gave us. Yet there was such peace and joy seeing the ongoing fruits. It was an adventure where I felt the love of my Father.

SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”

Our church was in a tight spot financially with the new building long before COVID hit. The shutdown was a new challenge. Even though the church could not gather, we trusted God would provide. We had a brand new devotional book called “WAIT” for every member to hand out that Sunday. Over 1,000 were given out the week the lockdowns began. We had thought we might have to wait for our new church building. But now, we were in a global waiting period. People were scared, polarized, and traumatized. But God provided as He promised.

SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”

I cannot fully express how afraid I was. My wife Erica went through a serious health scare. I was walking on a trail and this thought popped into my head: “Ask Jesus to pray for her” - knowing He intercedes for us (Hebrews 7:25). In that moment I heard a scripture: “The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). I texted Erica and she replied that the Lord had just given her that very same scripture! The fear was silent. God’s peace is so very real!

SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
