I’ve seen the colorful sights of the Grand Canyon at sunset. The high peaks in the Swiss Alps. The magnificence of God’s creation diving in the oceans. Yet the most profound impact on me has been on my paddle board on the small lake I live on. Water lilies blossom for just a few hours each day. In these quiet moments, I hear the voice of God say “Pace yourself. There is a time to shine. A time to be refreshed. In this world of constant connectivity, draw close to me. Behold the water lily.”

SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”

I felt fully alive with God’s purpose when I was leading a men’s ministry with a global missions organizations in the South Pacific islands. God gave me the gift of encouraging and motivating men to discover, develop, and use their gifts for Him. God has blessed me in the business world. But the deeper fulfillment comes from serving others. Partnering with God. Investing in His kingdom. This transcendent principle motivates me. As men, we need to reject passivity, accept responsibility, and lead courageously. These are things Jesus modeled for us.

SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer. As I began to fully understand this medical condition, I cried out to God in prayer for healing. I went through the procedures of testing and surgery. During this time of deep despair, God’s presence and assurance was with me. Releasing his peace as a flowing stream. Then one day the oncology doctor announced: “the cancer is gone with no traces of remission.” I came out of this experience a different person. A person ready to release old habits. God showed me how I can be whole and new again.

SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”

My father had a history of weakness and brokenness. He was adopted, and my childhood and early adulthood were deeply affected by this. As I grew in my faith, I realized we are all broken. We all need a whole and complete Father. Jesus came to restore and to heal. Through prayer I forgave my father. I released the oppressive hold and replaced it with God’s design of what a true Father is. Jesus knew heartache and despair would be prevalent and came “so that we may have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
