Several times a year I watch busloads of crazy teenage kids arrive to a camp. I try to remember what they look like as they get off the bus. Most of them will hear the gospel for the first time at camp. At the end, we have a “say so” time where kids can share what God’s doing in their hearts. I’m in awe when I hear what comes out of their mouths as they acknowledge Jesus! You almost can’t believe they’re the same kids on the bus just a few days earlier!
SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”
I do a lot of coaching with gospel-oriented leaders. Sometimes there’s a moment in the conversation where I sense that the Lord has just taken this over. And you’re not even sure where it’s going to go. But you have this sense the Lord is allowing you to really hear the other person. And that he is giving you the right amount of silence. The right amount of words to help this other person connect with Jesus and the calling in this person’s life. Those experiences are so life-giving and it never gets old!
SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”
We were “stuck“ with our daughter in Los Angeles because of a major medical issue. It felt like there was no way forward. No way back to our home in Costa Rica to live “normal” again. I had a mentor come and visit me in the hospital basement. He encouraged me to stay the course until the Lord gives another point of clarity. Don’t change course in the clouds. Over time, the Lord provided a path forward and miraculous healing. He brought people into our lives that stayed with us every step of the way.
SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”
There was a person in my life who seemed to be “against me” at every turn. I went into a deep depression because of it. I’d wake up in the mornings and be on my knees and cry out to the Lord to solve this. And the only answer I got was that He would walk with me. Over time, I came to see that this person wasn’t the enemy. That my sin was just as egregious as his. And that I needed the Lord just like he did. Over time, the Lord led us to a restored, joyful, gentle and reconciled relationship.
SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
