The beauty of mountains overwhelms me and shows God’s greatness, from my first trip to the Alps at age eight, to hikes with our kids in the Rockies, to the extreme peaks of Patagonia. But nothing overwhelms me more than visiting the highest point in western Europe, Mont Blanc, at 15,766ft. Visiting the Aiguille du Midi point on Mont Blanc at 12,605 ft is an experience exceeding virtually all others, with views east to central Switzerland and the Matterhorn area, as well as views of France and Italy. This spot literally “takes my breath away” and is a real spiritual experience.

SAY TO GOD: “HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME!”

I’ve enjoyed mentoring emerging business owners in retirement. I was especially privileged to come alongside Martha, a dear hard-working immigrant from Liberia, who had established an African grocery here. The building she was renting was up for sale, and she needed help determining if there was a way to purchase it. Working together, we built a business plan, and shared her vision with several banks until she secured a loan. Her grand re-opening was great, and I knew this work was indeed something I was called to do with entrepreneurs like Martha.

SAY TO GOD: “MAY YOUR WILL BE DONE!”

When your dear child contracts a life-threatening disease, it’s hard to understand God’s will and plan. Years ago, one of our children suddenly had extreme symptoms, and we all feared what it was. It was soon diagnosed as a specific deadly disease, and we feared for life itself. But by God’s mercy and grace, our child eventually found treatment and restoration and has recovered to be a smart, intelligent, fulfilled “world-changer” for the Lord, with a great career and testimony. God answered many prayers and brought glory to Himself in this amazing healing!

SAY TO GOD: “GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD!”

Some of us in town are privileged to be part of prison Bible-studies and a congregation inside our local prison. I never thought I’d be called to this, but these “insider” relationships have really changed my life. Most of these guys are “in” for a very long time. They deeply regret their past sins, accept why they are there, love and seek to serve the Lord with the rest of their lives, and serve each other in prison as the Light of Christ. Their testimonies and care for each other really show the new hearts that they have received.

SAY TO GOD: “DELIVER US FROM EVIL!”
